As The Years Roll On It’s The Experiences Which Count And Not The Numbers Of One’s Age

The month of July got me thinking about how I interact with the world. Feeling quite aware of being middle aged (midlife), I want my experiences to be meaningful and which contribute to my personal growth in some way.

It isn’t about living my age, it’s about doing things which lift me. That is not to mean that I only want to do safe things. Heaven knows that I have done enough things, time spent on which I won’t get back but safe living isn’t the answer.

I think that the answer lies in how one connects with the world.

I want to ‘touch’ the world.

Saying ‘yes’ to offers, within reason, has been my mantra for 3 years now since being awarded an MBE in 2023. Receiving the award made me feel seen and validated. My self esteem and confidence was raised and I turned this new feeling into an opportunity to live out of my normal box.

As an example, in the month of July I was invited to picnics, business gatherings including an entrepreneurs meet up which took me out of my comfort zone, and met a whole load of people who have introduced me to the world of AI, horses and football. None of these things will become mainstays in my life but I am more informed as a result.

Sometimes we need a jolt to metaphorically and literally look up and look around us. Receiving my MBE was my ‘jolt’. Perhaps yours is reaching a milestone birthday or having your kids leave home.

On this Monday post I urge you as a midlifer to seek new ground and expand your horizons in ways that you hadn’t thought about before. Believe me, it will exhilirate and rejuvenate you.

Have a good week.
