Midlife Monday: You’re Not Starting Again. You’re Starting From Experience.

Why on a Monday?

I have a quirky reason for posting about midlife on a Monday. I get rather philosophical because it is the start of the week.

Contrary to popular advice from self development Gurus, I don’t pontificate on a Sunday before the week begins. Sunday, to me, is for flif flaf and not serious stuff unless an emergency is at hand.

Monday has a momentum which ushers in the week and I ride on the wave of this.

This Week’s Lesson – You Aren’t at Square One

A blank figurative page, whether it’s a new week or a new day, isn’t about starting again but about starting from experience.

This is where your mid life comes in.

So many of us reach a point where life changes direction. Perhaps you’ve retired after decades in one career. Perhaps your children have left home. Perhaps you’ve changed countries, relationships, jobs or dreams.

Or perhaps you’ve simply woken up one morning and realised the life that once fitted you no longer does.

It’s tempting to look at these moments and think, “I’m back at square one.”

But are you?

I think we underestimate how much we’ve learned simply by living. We’ve solved problems. We’ve recovered from heartbreak. We’ve changed our minds. We’ve adapted when life had other plans.

One of the biggest myths we tell ourselves is that starting something new means starting from nothing.

It doesn’t.

It means taking everything you’ve learned and applying it in a different direction.

That’s why I believe midlife isn’t an ending. It’s a bridge.

So if you’re standing at the beginning of something—a new business, a new career, retirement, a move, a relationship, or simply a fresh way of looking at life—don’t tell yourself you’re behind. You’re arriving with a lifetime of experience in your suitcase.

Happy Monday.
