There are moments in midlife when life doesn’t gently test you — it just rips the plasterboard straight off the wall. Literally. I’ve been living in a bedroom where the builders have stripped the walls, and basically turned my sanctuary into a building site.
And yet, amid the dust and disruption, something curious happened. My cat, Milka, sat by the exposed wall like a tiny philosopher confronting the universe. No panic. No drama. Just presence.
In that moment, I felt a shift. Midlife has taught me that resilience isn’t about never being stressed — it’s about how we hold ourselves through the stress. When the metaphorical (and literal) walls crumble, we adapt. We pause. We breathe. And eventually, we rebuild.
Yes, the room looks like a post-apocalyptic DIY show. Yes, I’m tired and unsettled. But I’m also strangely proud. Because I’m still standing. And honestly, I think there’s something quietly powerful about seeing life stripped back to the beams. It reminds you that foundations are what matter — and mine are stronger than they used to be.
I bet yours are too, more than you realise.
Have a good week.
