I stood next to the Batmobile dressed as Cinderella recently for a cinematic event which I was asked to cover as a social media influencer.
It felt like a metaphor of sorts for midlife — the mix of magic, mischief, and unapologetic self-ownership that comes when you finally stop waiting for permission.
Because midlife isn’t a fairytale gone stale. It’s the sequel — the one where Cinderella realises she doesn’t need glass slippers, fairy godmothers, or midnight deadlines. What she needs is courage and high heels (M&S ones, in my case).
The courage to say, “I’ve got this now.”
In our younger years, we’re taught to chase happy endings — the job, the family, the approval, the perfect Instagram life. But somewhere around midlife, that script starts to feel too small.
The glass slippers pinch. The castle feels a bit too quiet. And that’s when the transformation begins — not into a princess, but into a woman who leads from within.
This is the essence of feminine leadership.
It’s not about being louder or tougher; it’s about leading with authenticity, intuition, and compassion — while refusing to shrink.
Feminine leadership means you can be gentle and powerful, sparkly and strategic. You can love your fairytales but still take the wheel of the Batmobile.
Standing there in that moment — one foot in fantasy, one hand on the future — is what midlife feels like. It’s the sweet spot where playfulness meets purpose. You’ve seen enough of life’s plot twists to know that waiting for a rescue isn’t the way forward.
You rescue yourself.
So this Midlife Monday, I’m celebrating every woman who’s rewritten her own story — who’s swapped the slippers for sneakers, the carriage for courage, and the fairytale for freedom.
Because the truth is: midlife isn’t when the magic ends. It’s when the real story begins.
