I had quite subconsciously forgotten the joys of board games. Silly me. Sitting around a board game with the anticipation of having fun for hours ahead was a simple pleasure of life. Then I stopped because other things took precedence and got in the way. My pile of board games collected dust and became lost in the clutter of life.
Yet, board games was a thing when I was growing up. My daughter loved playing Ludo till she was about 10. Ludo was my favourite too, followed by Snakes and Ladders. You never knew whether you were going to end up sliding down or up a snake or a ladder. I had a fascination with the counters used in Ludo because of the vibrant colours. Yellow was my go to for a round of Ludo.
Imagine my delight when I was contacted by Jaques of London to review their fantastic collection of games. It was an opportunity to reconnect with a discarded joy. I choose to review ‘Snakes and Ladders’ and ‘Shut the Box‘.
The boxes arrived gift wrapped. It was my Christmas come early. There was a handwritten card inside as a special touch from the person who had put my requested games together. The board is made of good quality wood. In the past my board games consisted of thin cardboard on which you threw dices that bounced off. Not to mention how the counters slid off easily with the lightest movement. The quality of board games by Jaques of London is genuinely very good.
I can honestly say that I spent a few delightful hours at the weekend playing these games.
So, if you are looking for a great game set as a Christmas present for your kids, grandkids or for your other half, look no further. You won’t be disappointed and there’s a wide range of games on offer like Backgammon and Chess. Go on, treat yourself.
